Fills go by faster than any ear can follow

At half speed a fill stops being a blur and becomes strokes you can count. The pitch does not move, so the kit sounds like a kit rather than cardboard. Loop the fill (the seam is click-free by construction, which matters more for time-keeping than for any other instrument) and creep the speed up through the presets as it settles into your hands.
